I cried tears of joy as my many brothers showed their respect for the words of God.
It was the occasion of a mass and a Celebration of Life event for our beloved sister.
I sat and watched as each of my brothers recited Bible verses during a Mass we attended for my sister’s passing. One by one, they stood at the pulpit, sharing what completely resonated with them and was appropriate for the day.
I knew my brothers were good men who treated people kindly and loved one another and me. However, I hadn’t seen this type of dedication from them before. Mostly, I remember them as we played football, tetherball, and Red Rover. Their display of all that is lovely and peaceful touched my soul.
The day was beautiful in every respect. We connected with God and felt his presence as we mingled, caught up, and shared memories. Phone numbers were exchanged, stories were told, music echoed throughout the venue, and there were poetry readings, photographs, videos, and plans for the future.
I met new people, forged new relationships, and reconnected with family I hadn’t seen in years.
Jesus was all over this day of remembrance, love, and deep feelings.
Colossians 3:12 reads, “You are the people of God; he loved you and chose you for his own. So then, you must clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” GNT
