On Monday, May 12, 2026, I wrote a blog post using Proverbs 25:16. In the verse it speaks of having too much honey.

Although it does address eating too much honey, which can cause some harm, it also means we must have self-control. Self-control is a gift of the Holy Spirit.

Proverbs 25:16 also concerns not hoarding material possessions–even good things.

In addition, Proverbs 25:17 speaks about relationships, and not visiting a neighbor too often.

For me, in trying to understand Proverbs 25:16 and not doing a good job of it, I needed a different verse. That verse is 2 Corinthians 12:9. It reads, “And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore, most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon Me.” (NKJV).

Jesus gives us grace when we need it for the wrong things we do. He gives his grace out of the goodness of his heart. It is not given because we have done anything to deserve it. His strength is all we need to make it through trials.

I am grateful that the Lord is so understanding and helps us the way he does. I am human, and I make mistakes. Knowing about and relying on his goodness creates an atmosphere in which I can move forward in a state of relaxation. I do, however, always remember to adhere to the rules of good journalism. In the above case, what I needed to do was a little research. Sometimes, certain verses seem self-explanatory. That being said, though, I will check them.

Thank you for reading.

I love you,

Lisa Brown
